Purpose and function of the NATO
The North Atlantis Treaty Organization, is an organization that was mainly formed to create a mutual defense alliance with all the countries involved, so if one them were attacked, then all of NATO would come to their side. Their main purpose was to protect the freedom of is members and prevent nuclear war. After the communist countries formed the Warsaw Pact, NATO adopted the "Massive Retaliation" policy, which basically says that if the Warsaw Pact attacked, NATO would use nuclear weapons. NATO focused mainly on the economy and trying to make it better.
